About Tumi

Tumi is an accomplished Neurodiversity speaker, advocate and researcher who has significantly contributed to promoting awareness and understanding of neurodiversity. He was diagnosed with Dyspraxia at age four, which inspired him to dedicate his career to this field—currently working as an early career researcher in Health Economics at Newcastle University. Tumi has set his sights on pursuing a PhD focusing on the economics of the inequalities associated with neurodiversity. Before his current position, he gained experience as a research assistant in evidence synthesis at Newcastle University.

Tumi founded The Black Dyspraxic to emphasise the importance of intersectionality in neurodiversity from his experience as a British-born Nigerian with Dyspraxia. He aims to shed light on the unique challenges individuals in these communities face. Tumi actively participates in the Neurodiversity community and holds advisory roles on the Centre for Neurodiversity at Work at Birkbeck University and the Co-Production Board for Neurodiversity in Business. He has also served as a judge for the Genius Within Neurodiversity Awards for four consecutive years. Additionally, he contributes to The Diverse Creative CIC future leader's advisory board and Noetic, the community advisory board.

Tumi's expertise and passion for neurodiversity have led to numerous speaking engagements leveraged by over 15 years of public speaking. His advocacy efforts have allowed him to speak publicly about his experiences at prominent companies such as Sony, PlayStation, IBM, and Universal Music. Tumi has received the Dyspraxia Foundation's Mary Coley award from the Dyspraxia Foundation and the Dyspraxic Advocate of the Year award from A2i to recognise his outstanding efforts in raising awareness of Dyspraxia.

Tumi gives glory to God for everything and is grateful for the tremendous support he provides from his incredible wife, Harmony.

Overall, Tumi is a dedicated advocate for neurodiversity, actively working to promote inclusivity and understanding for individuals who are neurodivergent /neuro-distinct.
